Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG) Scholarships for Postgraduates, 2017-2018


Applications are invited for Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG) Scholarships for 2017-2018 academic year. The AIG Scholarship is open to Nigerian and Ghanaian to pursue a Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree at University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government (BSG).
To achieve our objectives, the AIG will fund scholarships for outstanding Nigerians and Ghanaians to undertake intensive post-graduate world-class training in governance and public policy.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing Postgraduate programme.
Study Subject: Scholarships are available for pursuing Masters of Public Policy (MPP) programme at the Blavatnik School of Government (BSG), University of Oxford, and provide with a transformative experience.
Scholarship Award: There are five AIG Scholarships available for 2017-2018 that cover fees, accommodation and living expenses.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:
  • You must be a Citizen of Nigeria or Ghana
  • You must be between the age of 25 and 35 years
  • You must have achieved an academic standing sufficiently advanced to ensure admission to Oxford and the MPP programme. This means a first-class or strong upper second-class undergraduate degree with honours (or equivalent international qualifications), as a minimum, in any discipline. For applicants with a degree from the USA, the minimum GPA sought is 3.7 out of 4.0
Nationality: Citizen of Nigeria or Ghana is eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirements: Applicants must be between the age of 25 and 35 years.
English language Requirements: Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

How to Apply: Applicants who reach the second stage of selection will be required to furnish the following additional information.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Full academic transcripts
  • References – from four people, at least two of whom the candidate should have studied under at university. The references should be sent directly to the AIG, and should attest to the character and intellect of the applicant, including academic, personal, extra-curricular and leadership achievements. (References should not be given by people who are related.)
  • Personal essay (no more than 1500 words)
  1. Articulate your vision on how you, and others like yourself, would play a role in transforming your country’s public sector.
  2. Specify which particular sector you would be interested in working; why you would choose this sector; and, how the transformation of this sector could impact the economy as a whole
  3. Outline a personal challenge you have overcome or an achievement that you feel demonstrates your leadership potential
